JONATHAN TAKES MAJOR TITLE

His four round total of 276 was twelve under par for the Harrogate course and was five shots clear of the rest of the field which contained a number of international players, with Ivan Cantero from Llanes GC in Spain finishing as runner-up.

A three under par 69 in the first round saw Jonathan immediately sharing the lead with Mitchel Sarling from Rochford Hundred. That soon became the sole lead as he fired a second round 68 to establish a two stroke advantage over the rest of the field.

Jonathan certainly didn’t have it all his own way in round three as his Spanish rival signed for a magnificent seven under par 65 to lead by one shot after Jonathan had recorded a 71.

However, in a tense final round, Thomson continued to play very consistent high quality golf and turned in another great round of 68 which proved too much for Cantero who could do no better than 74.

Congratulations to Jonathan on a richly deserved win in this high profile junior golf championship.
