SHEFFIELD SENIOR TEAM WIN THEIR SEASON OPENER

The first friendly encounter between these two teams was exactly fifty years ago and since 1985 an annual match has been played for the aptly named Sheffton Trophy.

On this occasion, Sheffield got their noses in front in the morning foursomes by 4 points to 2, with the best performance coming from Jamie Harrison (Rotherham GC) and John Bragger (Tinsley Park GC) with a 4 & 3 win.

In the afternoon singles, Sheffield ran away from Bolton in some style with wins for Sam Young (Rotherham GC) by 3 & 2, David Briggs (Renishaw Park GC) 2 & 1, Jamie Harrison 4 & 3, John Bragger 2 & 1, Richard Oades (Abbeydale Golf Club) 4 & 3, Tim Brind (Abbeydale Golf Club) 5 & 3, Tom Perry (Abbeydale Golf Club) 5 & 4, Nathan Rogers (Wortley Golf Club) 3 & 2, and Lewis Hollingworth (Tankersley Park GC) 2 & 1, plus a halved match from Neil Stones (Bawtry GC).

Sheffield consequently ran out very comfortable winners by 13.5 points to 4.5 and now look forward to their first Yorkshire Inter-District League match of the season against the Harrogate Golf Union at Hillsborough Golf Club on Sunday 20th May.
