Sheffield Union Scratch Team - Yorkshire Champions 2011

They finished their 2011 season off in style at Dore and Totley winning 24-12 against the Huddersfield/HaliUnion in their last match of the season. For new Team Manager Ian Clarke it was a thoroughly enjoyable debut season and he paid tribute to all the players who had played for the squad throughout the year, and other Union officials that had helped particularly the President Eric Ledbury and his lucky charm wife Pat.

But there was no great secret to the success with only 23 players being selected for the long season. The team spirit had been excellent and the players that were selected all played very well when needed.

Sheffield were dominant in most of their games, reflected in their plus 71 game points difference. Their only halved match was away at last years champions Bradford back in June when the team had to dig deep to contain a very strong Bradford side at Bingley St Ives.

The Sheffield Union has a wealth of talent to choose from with England and County Player smaking appearances when their schedules allowed. Both the 2011 County Champion Dan Wasteney and England Player Scott Campbell both securing many points this year as well as a steady stream of good young players coming through to make our future look promising.

Pictured below are some of the winning squad who were at the last match of the season at Dore and Totley, celebrating their fine winning season!!
