Sheffield Union of Golf Clubs

TREVOR SLACK IS THE 2012 SUGC PRESIDENT

A Past Captain of Worksop Golf Club, Trevor is well known on the local golfing scene having served as a member of the Sheffield Union’s Executive Committee between 1997 and 2006.

Until his retirement in 2005, he worked for over 40 years as a teacher, educational advisor and schools inspector.

Originally from Sutton-in-Ashfield in Nottinghamshire, Trevor was a member of Sitwell Park Golf Club during the 1970s and joined Worksop in 1980. He has served Worksop as both a member of the club committee and as a board director during the last 20 years and was Chair of their Centenary Planning Committee over recent years.

Trevor is a very handy golfer as well, currently playing off a handicap of 7, although he admits that this is on the way up at present. In better days, he was a regular member of the Notts Union Seniors’ team and was Captain of their Golf Captains’ Society during 2003 /04.

As well as becoming the second golfer from Worksop to take on the role of President of the biggest Inter-District Golf Union in the northern region, there is another good reason why 2012 will be a very special year for Trevor. He and his wife Janet will celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary in April and, along with their two daughters and four grandchildren, there will be many outstanding memories for the Slack household to look back on at the end of the year.

The new President and his deputy, Graham Needham from Doncaster Golf Club, will make a great team. President Designate Graham is also well known locally within the game of golf having been the Honorary Secretary of the Sheffield Union of Golf Clubs until recently and a Past Captain of his home club at Bessacarr.

Trevor and Graham jointly look forward to meeting the members and officials of many of the SUGC clubs during the forthcoming season and hope everyone will have a most enjoyable and successful golfing year in 2012.
