Sheffield Union of Golf Clubs

Success can be measured in many ways and our Union players and teams have demonstrated those outcomes during the past season.

Individually, we have had players in the Ryder Cup and Walker Cup squads, representatives at various levels in the England squad and over half of the Yorkshire squads have included Sheffield players.  In addition, no less than 10 Sheffield players competed in the English Amateur Championship.

Our men’s team had many opportunities this season and we used over 41 players in the YIDU league and championship.  Their success could be measured in the manner which they approached each match and their commitment, enthusiasm and passion was outstanding.

Success is not just individually winning but winning as a team.  Our juniors faulted only once on their way to winning the YIDU league and championship – a double rarely achieved in this arena of golf.  Seven of this squad, through age, now elevate to the men’s squad where other elements of success will be awaiting them.

I truly believe that whilst we have had our difficulties during 2023 our overall position does demonstrate a high degree of success.

Many thanks to all who have supported and represented us during the season.

Neil Leatherland, Team Manger
