Sheffield Union of Golf Clubs


Sheffield were far too strong for an inexperienced young York Union team and came away with a 32 – 4 victory

The morning foursomes were 11 – 1 in favour of Sheffield with the two young teams of Johnson/Graveling and Butcher/Snook winning 7/6 and 5/3. Wins for Doncaster pair of Rolfe/Mitchell 4/3 and Silman/Swords 2/1, and finally the Goff/Schmidt match went to the final green resulting in their game being halved

The afternoon singles were played in sunny warm conditions the result being a 21 – 3 to Sheffield

There were wins for Whaley (8/7), Silman (2/1), Goff (4/3), Schmidt (5/4), Snook (3/2), Butcher (3/2), Mitchell (6/4), Swords (2/1), Graveling (6/4) and Johnson (6/5).

Johnson Rolfe came back from 4 down with 6 to play to finish all square to complete the scoring

The matches were played in a very good spirit and the York team are to be commended on their play which augers well for their union in the future.
