SUGC JUNIORS WIN THE YIDU TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

The SUGC Junior Team of Freddie Parlby (Capt), Jack Whaley, Kyle Johnson-Rolfe, Sam Fry, Luke Schmidt, Max Whittaker, & reserve Isaac Marks posted a collective two round score of 894, to take the title from East Riding by 16 strokes. Third place went to Teesside on 922.

The Crosland Heath Golf Club – 26th August 2021
Luke Schmidt, who had missed practice day playing in the Midlands, came into the team for the injured Jack Aldridge with Isaac Marks as travelling reserve The conditions on the opening round of the competition were different to the practice day in that there was a gusting breeze and a cool wind. Jack Whaley led the way in the morning with an excellent score of 2 under par (only losing the best morning on count back) and backed up by Kyle Johnson Rolfe (+1),Freddie Parlby (+3), Sam Fry (+5),Luke Schmidt (+6) and Max Whittaker (+8) which meant we were leading on 447 by 8 shots from East Riding. Two teams had been disqualified, one for playing the wrong ball and the other for the player not being able to make his starting time due to a long holdup on the motorway.

The team were confident they could score better in the afternoon and give themselves a good chance of victory and so it proved with Freddie Parlby (-1), Sam Fry (+3), Luke Schmidt (+5), Kyle Johnson Rolfe matching his morning round of +1 and Jack Whaley again scoring under par at-1 with the very disappointed Max Whittaker again playing well below his best we still matched our morning total of 447 to give us a total of 894 and victory by 16 shots over East Riding
