SHEFFIELD PLATE

After our attempt to stage the event in June and with a far from reassuring weather forecast it was with some trepidation that the SUGC exec team gathered early morning at Hallamshire. Well apart from some very heavy showers and thunder in the surrounding areas everyone managed to get through to two rounds. With an impressive line-up of entrants, it was always going to be a close competition and so it turned out. Few golfers have won the Plate twice but no one had actually “retained” it until Hallamshire member and 2018 winner Julian Wood (helped by an eagle 2 on the 413 yard par 4  10th) recorded a 2 under par 140, to pip Alex Fitzpatrick by one shot. In third place was Darren Kirton from College Pines on 142.
