WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH. . . . .

The day started well for the 68th Sheffield Open, with bright conditions, the temperature some 10 degrees cooler than of late, and the Hallowes course in fine condition we were all set for some good golf in the competition that pits our local professionals against our top amateurs.

Move on a few hours, the heavens opened and the rain came down, some players walked off, “no returns” started to drop into the competitions box but eventually three golfers managed to finish with a one under par 70. After countback the winner and Open Champion 2018 was Hallamshire’s Jim Tasker, who as leading amateur also collects the Hughes Cup. In second place was Lindrick’s John King who as leading professional picks up the Lockwood Salver, finally in third place was local junior Jack Wilson, who finished off a great week having made his debut on Sunday in our scratch team where in the foursomes he had the longest drive, nearest the pin, and biggest win (8&7), and shooting a 64 in his clubs Thursday medal.

Well done to all who took part and congratulations to those who actually finished.
