Daran has also coached or refereed badminton, trampoline, table tennis, tennis, gymnastics and hockey, many at national level.

On top of his many sporting interests he managed to find time to be a teacher, examiner, expert in genealogy, and the master of Holgate Masonic Lodge and first principal of the Holgate Chapter.

The former head choirboy at St Mary’s Parish Church Barnsley also plays piano and guitar, writes novels and has taken part in quiz shows on Granada TV’s ‘Busman’s Holiday’ winning holidays to Oslo and Hawaii.
