The 6-18 handicap competition was launched this year to engage more players at affiliated clubs into Union events. It has proved very popular, with more than 20 clubs seeking to participate.

Clubs were separated into four geographical zones, with five clubs in each. Zone winners qualified for the final.

Zone match were contested as foursomes matchplay, while the final was played as better-ball stableford.

Union secretary Graham Needham said : "This competition has proved a great success. The format will be reviewed after consultation to make sure it becomes a lasting success. We wanted to engage with club players below the elite level with this competition and we feel it has been well received."
