JUNIORS SHOW TOP SPIRIT

The union’s top juniors were praised for the quality of their play and sporting spirit in two key events at the weekend.

Sandhill’s Kurtis Keating won the Junior Champion of Champions event staged at Hallamshire with a three under par 68 gross beating runner up, Tankersley Park’s Isaac Simpson, by three shots.

In the under 14s Match Play Final at Roundwood, Callum Macfie from Lindrick beat Waterfront’s Lewis Eccles, sinking a testing five foot putt on the 18th to seal victory one up.

SUGC President, Graham Needham, was delighted by the standard of play and sporting spirit displayed at both events.

He said: “Kurtis has had an immense season and to be able to score 68 gross at Hallamshire in its usual windy conditions is fantastic.

“It was very windy at Roundwood with the odd shower as well yet the standard of play was unbelievable. I was in awe of the concentration on show. They played beyond their years and all credit to them.”
