PRESIDENTS DAY A GREAT SUCCESS

A total of 28 teams took part in the mixed AM-AM event, won by a team scoring 91 points.

President Graham Needham thanked Doncaster for hosting the competition and praised the condition of the course as he handed over the SUGC fee to the club’s men’s Captain Mike Lynes.

He said: “I’d like to thank Doncaster Golf Club for hosting my President’s Day. The course is unbelievable. I’d also like to thank competitors for taking part, the ladies who looked after everybody at the halfway house and the catering staff. It has been a memorable day.”

SUGC executive member Dennis Clarke (Bondhay pictured below)  brought a smile to everybody’s face when he arrived on the putting green in a customary flamboyant golfing outfit. It has become a tradition for Dennis to dress up for the occasion and this time it was a dabber pink affair, with fabric sourced by his wife Vicky in Kuala Lumpur.

The winning team with 91 points was: Dave Hall (Bondhay), Moira Crenlin (Wheatley), Kate Morritt (Hickleton) and Graham Burrows (Bondhay) pictured top. Runner up: 89 points; David Axe (Hallowes), Leslie Hayes (Bondhay), Christine Atkinson (Lindrick Artisans) and Gary Lund (Less Hall). 3rd: 84 points; Chris Archer (Roundwood) Elizabeth Knox (Hallamshire) Alan Cook (Silkstone) and Brian Muffett (Phoenix). Nearest the pin; ladies, Jayne Wing (Abbeydale); gents, Eric Taylor (Lindrick Artisans).
