GRAHAM NEEDHAM IS THE 2013 SUGC PRESIDENT

The new President and his deputy, Martin Brewis will make a great team. President Designate Martin has been a member of Wortley Golf Club for 35 years and is also a very proud Past Captain of his home club.

The AGM had a healthy turnout of club representatives from across the Sheffield Union area and they were reminded, in a series of verbal reports, about the many successes that our Union enjoyed during 2012 under the leadership of Immediate Past President, Trevor Slack from Worksop Golf Club.

A few of the highlights were the Senior Team doing “the double” by winning both the Yorkshire Inter-District League and the end of season Team Championship, the Junior Team winning the Yorkshire Inter-District League title and Matthew Fitzpatrick from Hallamshire Golf Club winning the British Boys Championship title.

The entire membership of the Sheffield Union were thanked for their continued support of their home golfing union, illustrated by over three hundred people attending an enjoyable and highly successful Annual Dinner and Prize Presentation Evening at the Holiday Inn Hotel, Sheffield last November.

A big thank you was also expressed towards the Union’s sponsors ; Sheffield Special Steels, Westcourt Financial Services, D. C. Clarke Roofing Ltd, Warwick Ward (Machinery) Ltd and the Sheffield Indoor Golf Academy for their continued generosity towards our high profile district golf union.

President Graham and President Elect Martin jointly look forward to meeting the members and officials of many of the SUGC clubs during the forthcoming season and hope that everyone will have a most enjoyable golfing year in 2013.
