JOHN IS JUNIOR MATCH PLAY CHAMPION

Hallowes’ John was up against Aaron Nairn from Rotherham GC in the morning semi-final and with just three holes to play, found himself in the very comfortable position of being three up. After pinching the 16th hole to reduce the deficit to two holes, Aaron could not sustain his mini fight back and John won through to the final by a score of 2&1.

The other semi was an all Wheatley GC affair with Sheffield Junior Team regular Joel Cartlidge playing fellow member Matthew Slater. The match was close well into the back nine but Joel eventually got his nose in front to win through by 3&2.

In the final, the two talented youngsters stuck to their task admirably on the challenging Lindrick course and put on a fine display for the healthy gallery of family, friends and fellow golf club members who braved the late afternoon heavy showers that descended over the Worksop area.

It was fitting that this match went to the very last green and it was there that John Jarman managed to win the match by a score of 1up to cap another fine season for young, up and coming golfers in Sheffield Union championship events.

It’s a double success for Hallowes this year after their league team finished runners-up in the SUGC Second Division and next season will be mixing it with the golfing big guns in the top flight.
