SHEFFIELD INTER-DISTRICT TEAM CONTINUE TO DOMINATE

It’s looking good for the Sheffield Union Senior Team after another fine win saw them sitting firmly on top of the Yorkshire Inter-District League table with maximum points from the five matches played so far.

Their latest match against the Teesside Golf Union was played on the home course of the SUGC President Trevor Slack at Worksop and the team once again set off in great style in the morning foursomes, going into lunch with a 10 points to 2 lead over their opponents. Large wins in the foursomes by Scott Campbell (Hallowes GC) and David Booth (Rotherham GC) by 6&4 plus Dominic Moon (Rotherham GC) and Richard Oades (Abbeydale GC) by 6&5 put the team in a great position going into the afternoon singles.

There was no letting up after lunch either and it was of great credit to the home team that they did not lose any of the twelve singles matches played with Moon repeating the score line from his morning match with a 6&5 win and further significant victories for Daniel Wasteney (Bondhay GC) by 5&3, Nathan Rogers (Wortley GC) by 4&3 and ever reliable team member Neil Stones (Bawtry GC) by 4&3.

Sheffield is currently two points ahead of the Halifax and Huddersfield Golf Union side who have won three and tied two of their matches at this point in the season.

The next match for the SUGC team is away against the York Union at Pike Hills GC on Sunday19th August with what may well then be the league title deciding match against Halifax and Huddersfield two weeks later at Ogden GC, Halifax.
