Rotherham Pair romp to victory in Turner Shield

The Rotherham Pair followed the Rotherham success in last week's Mid-Amateur by Shaun Angel with some superb golf. They shot 68 in the morning sunshine to lead by three shots from Tapton Park pair Andrew Carnall (Pro) and Carl Jacobs. Ultimately this 71 would earn them best morning round as they faded away in the afternoon with a 79 to finish joint 5th.

Matt and Sam continued in the same vein in the afternoon to record another excellent 69 as the heat took it's toll on the majority of the field. Their final total of 137 earning them an 8 shot victory from 2nd placed Ashley Lerigo (Pro) and Matt Langley of Sitwell Park who shot a valliant 70 to finish on 145.

3rd Place was earned by Bawtry pair Dan Gregory (Pro) and Martin Hayward who finished with rounds of 72 and 76 for a total of 148.

Credit must also go to Sandhill brothers Thomas and Kurtis Keating who shot a creditable 72 in the afternoon heat to claim the best PM round (and also the side-bet against fellow Sandhill players Peter Marsh (Pro) and Andrew Herbert!)

Thanks must go to the staff at Dore & Totley for preparing the course in such a way that the fact it was closed only last Friday was a distant memory as it finally looked as if Summer had finally arrived.

Next on the calendar is the JUNIOR INTER-CLUB TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS to be held at the course of our newest member WATERFRONT at the week-end. This is followed by the SHEFFIELD OPEN, which has a full field, but a reserve list is in place if anyone wishes to contact me.

Congratulations once again to Rotherham Golf Club as they continue to put behind them the great disappointment of a narrow defeat in the Team Championships at Sickleholme last month.
