Sheffield Union of Golf Clubs

NEW PRESIDENT ELECTED

Former Sitwell Park GC Captain John Reynard was elected President of the Sheffield Union of Golf Clubs for 2017 at the annual council meeting.

John has been a member of Sitwell Park Golf Club for 46 years, and was Centenary Captain in 2013. Today he continues as a member of the club’s management committee.

He joined the Sheffield Union’s Executive in 2014 and has played a major role in promoting the use of computer systems to assist in running the union’s competitions. He was also instrumental in the introduction of the new website.

He retired in 2012 after many years travelling the world as a consultant for a large engineering 3D software modelling company. Away from golf he is the current 2016/17 President of Rotherham Round Table helping to raise money for local causes.

John said: “It is an honour to become President of the Sheffield Union for both myself and my home club Sitwell Park, who I would also like to thank for putting my name forward.

“I am looking forward to my year in office and will do all I can to promote the interests of the Sheffield Union and uphold its aims and traditions as well as contributing to its further development.

“I would like to thank everyone once again for their support and look forward to visiting as many of the Union’s clubs as possible during the coming months.”

John thanked last year’s President Dennis Clarke for his lead in another successful year for the union that saw the senior team win the Yorkshire double – victory both in the county league and team event. The junior squad also showed their potential to step up by winning the Yorkshire junior league and coming runner up in the team championship.

John said: “Dennis had a really successful year as President and I have certainly learned a lot from him. Out and about in his company I have met hundreds of people. He has been such a popular President and a hard act to follow.”

Elected President Designate was former Captain and President of Hickleton GC, Jeff Roden. In addition, a new position created this year saw Alan Marriott (Wath) appointed as President Elect.
