JUNIORS WORK HARD IN THE HOLIDAYS

Sheffield Union’s young players have been busy competing in the Junior Inter Club Team Championship and the annual Junior Open.

Tapton’s Juniors took the team championship and the Colts Cup at Hillsborough with a total of 207, beating Bondhay into the runner up spot on 212. Third place went to Doncaster on 217.

The competition, contested by stroke play off handicap, attracted 23 teams from across the region playing in zones for qualification to the semi finals and the final.

The victorious Tapton team is pictured below with Union President Dennis Clarke.

 Meanwhile, George Nicholson of Silkstone became the Union’s 2016 Junior Champion with gross 73 at Abbeydale pipping  Jack Leversidge of the host club pb one shot. Jaciob Causier of Doncaster  was third with 75.

The under 14s champion was Jack Greaves of Phoenix on 82 while Sam Fry of Doncaster took the under 13 prize with a net 74. Ewan Pickersgill of Lindrick recorded the best net of 69.

The Girls’ Champion was Libby Kilbride of Dore and Totley with gross 80, net 75.

Also noteworthy was a hole in one by Tom Osbourne.
