PRESIDENT'S DAY A GREAT SUCCESS

Almost 80 players from across the Sheffield Union of Golf Club’s region enjoyed a great day out at Silkstone Golf Club to celebrate President’s Day for club officials.

Rain in the afternoon did little to spoil the day on an excellent course that proved a fine test for the best of players.

The Union’s President, Daran Johnson, welcomed his guests and provided a feast at the halfway house, prepared by chef Jonathan Gillott and served by the President’s wife Beverley, helped by Silkstone members Julie and Stuart Vickers.

The competition, a three quarters handicap AM-AM was won by Ian Gregory (Wath), Steve Bell (Sitwell Park), Jannis Beevers (Worksop) and Helen Elshaw, (Tapton Park) with 84 points.

The winning ladies’ team with 77 points was made up of Sheila Wilde (Wath), Dot Nos (Bondhay), and Margaret Swift (Silkstone).

Nearest the pin prizes were won by Val Swales (Hallamshire) and Richard Hodgkinson (Lindrick).

Daran said: “I’d like to thank everybody who has attended, the team at the half way house, the union officials and the club, including captain Keith Geal, who have made it such a lovely day that I have really enjoyed. I hope everybody has found the course in top condition despite the testing weather.”

Steve Bell, on behalf of the winning team thanked the President and added: “It has been a fantastic day and the course, staff and catering has been superb.”
