WINNING WAYS FOR JUNIORS

Sheffield Union Junior golf has had a busy week with one team qualifying for the county finals and four others performing well in the Yorkshire Boys’.

Doncaster juniors won the Sheffield Junior Team Championship, sponsored by Westcourt Financial Services, at Doncaster Town Moor. The team of C Longworth (31 points) J Cuillo (36) and B Watson (35) combined to produce a team score of 102 beating runners up Hickleton with 99. Third was Hallamshire with 98. Best individual score was achieved by M Dickinson of Renishaw Park with 38 points.

A total of 16 teams competed in the 18 hole stableford competition open to teams of boys and girls under 18.

The winning team qualifies for the Yorkshire Junior Team Championship at Rudding Park in August.

Meanwhile Sheffield area golfers claimed four of the top six places in the Yorkshire Boys Amateur Championship staged at Huddersfield GC. Lindrick’s Baily Gill was runner up with a total of 145 shots over two rounds while clubmates Greg Denton (147) and Nathan Fell (148) were close behind. Hallamshire’s Alex Fitzpatrick came sixth with 148.
